How important are bees?
Bees not only make honey - they also pollinate 35% of our food supply - that's one in every three bites of the food you eat!
But bees are in trouble. Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD) has been steadily destroying hives all over the United States and the rest of the world. In the winter of 2006-2007, CCD killed 32% of American hives and the cause is still not clear. While no one knows the cause or the cure for CCD, collapsed colonies have been associated with pesticides, newly introduced viruses, fungi and poor colony nutrition.
What's clear is that more hives are needed to help combat the loss of pollinating bees in our country! Wesley House of Cincinnatti invites students to a Beekeeping Class at Grailville this Saturday, April 27th at 1:00 pm. Get to know the ins and outs of keeping a hive - even in your back yard! And contribute to the sustainability of our food supply!

The Wesley House Choir Challenge that took place at Groesbeck UMC on April 14th was a huge success! The singing was stupendous and Church of Our Savior Celebration Singers was the winner of the online donations this year. But the big winner was the Wesley Foundation, with over $4,000 in total donations! An enormous thank you to all those who made this event so spectacular! Here's to next year!
St. Timothy Episcopal Church asked Wesley House UC to partner with them to provide meals at Phil's Place, a feeding program out of North Presbyterian Church in Northside. Phil's Place enables Episcopal churches around Greater Cincinnati to offer meals from 5-6pm every Friday. Wesley House UC is going to cook and serve a meal to those in need at Phil's Place on Friday, March 8! Meet at Wesley House at 4pm and back by 7pm!
